I have a Sony HBH-DS970. I too had the issue where the Stereo is not real stereo but Joint stereo which is a mono times 2.
It is terrible. I modified the registry to increase the buffer of the bluetooth and also changed a value to make it true stereo.
Now I have true stereo but the sound quality is still terrible. Any suggestions?

"I found this info:
"[HKLM_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings]
Modify, Value name=UseJointStereo; Value data=0 (Decimal, Originally 1)
1 - Join Stereo (Mono)
0 - Real Stereo
To improove Audio Quality modify the following keys:
Dword, Value name=BitPool; Value data=48 (Decimal)
Modify, Value Max SupportedBitPool; Value data=48 (Decimal)
For BitPool:
Microsoft suggests the following bitpool values for optimal buffer sizes.
30 - Low audio quality
40 - Medium audio quality
48 - High audio quality
58 - Excellent audio quality
Chose one you like. I think 48 is good enough."
I make the test and the sound is much better than the previous. This cheat really works.
Greetins for all!!"
Great this realy works, Thank you so much, right now I change my mind about Sony Bluetooth headphones, WOW

as far as i know one of the reps that is very adept with a Dash said it would be easier to have WM6 for true stereo bluetooth, also there is way to play music out of ur bluetooth earpiece alone, there is a program on www.surrealnetworks.com it works i have tried it, now i just need to get the headphones, but i am researching cuz i dont want to fall into a problem where it does not work, so anyone that has tested the stereo headphones with WM6 on the dash let me know how that works thanks

I noticed that my nifty new Blue Ant X5 headphones were playing good quality but in mono. I beat my head against a wall trying different settings until I discovered a posting online that told me to change registry setting HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings\UseJointStereo to 0 to disable joint stereo. Now I have stereo and the sound quality is still great too.

I use a plantronics headset, which does work very well as a stereo headset. it's the 590A. It's a little bulky, but i dont mind.
Please advise your device settings and maybe I can help.

RE: Dash bluetooth

Speaking of headphones, how about wired stereo headphones? Are there any for the Dash that aren't in ear? I have small ear canals and I can't use in ear headphones such as the typical Iphone headphones. Are there any compatible Dash usb adapters or stereo wired headphones that go behind the ears or are like traditional headphones?
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Simple to pair then you get hands free and Stereo. The phones also control the windows media player and pause audio when you get a call then restart when the call is done. iPhono mini from BlueTake (look up bluetake's website). I got mine via amazon and they ship direct from bluetake in a couple of days. USB charges them and they have pretty goog standby & talk times
