Experiences with ROM v2.15 for the Cingular 8525

I just wanted to share some of my experiences with the v2.15 ROM update...

I flashed my phone without any troubles what so ever, but within a few minutes I was unable to use most of the buttons on the front of the phone (ie, the soft buttons, the ok button, the messaging button, the IE button, the Windows key, and both phone buttons).

Multiple soft and hard resets produced no positive effects. Re-flashing the phone with the v2.15 ROM didn't do anything either. I even tried flashing the unit back to the shipping ROM (v1.34), but I only experienced the 260 error...

After calling AT&T and explaining what the update did to the phone, they replaced it with no questions asked.

Incidentally, I was able to get the Internet Connection sharing working without much trouble using a Bluetooth PAN connection and Windows Vista Business (IBM Thinkpad x60). It required a few more steps than using the phone as a modem, so I think the ROM update dimished productivity.

Unless you need the Push to Talk feature, there isn't anything useful in the update. The new ROM trashed my phone and the Internet Connection sharing is a slight pain. I would strongly recommend avoiding the v2.15 update....

awillems Issue with the front buttons after WM6 ROM upgrade 7 Jun 4 2008, 2:54 AM EDT by Anonymous

I find that this complaint is few and far between, yet I now know of three people with exactly the same issue. After performing the ROM update available from the HTC website, all the front buttons on the HTC TyTN stopped working immediately (these are the Messaging, IE, OK, Video Call, Dial, Hangup, the joystick buttons, etc. that surround the screen).

No amount of hard resets (via Settings, Clear Storage OR the two soft keys together with the recessec reset button, OR more than 8 attempts at reloading the ROM update (all successfully completed, by the way) addressed this extremely annoying condition as result of the upgrade from WM5 to WM6.

Let's face it, WM6 added some nice features, have a good look and feel, but having to loose the buttons is a bummer, to say the least.

I have searched so many forums over the past two months since the ROM upgrade, that I cannot remember half the stuff - tried so many things that I can re-install my software blindfolded, yet no solution in sight.

Some details: I am a resident of South Africa, my contract is with Vodacom. The HTC distributor in RSA is Leaf Technologies (www.leaf.co.za) and my model is a HERM200

    ROM version: 3.54.255.3
    ROM date: 07/05/07
    Radio version: 1.48.00.10
    Protocol version: 32.81.7020.20H
    ExtROM version: 3.54.255.104

Any and all assistance is appreciated, since Leaf advised that it's a hardware problem.... Go figure - a ROM upgrade trashes three TyTN's buttons, yet the same button work for a Hard Reset?

    Regards from sunny RSA

Anonymous Additional features lost in 2.15 ROM Upgrade 0 Oct 29 2007, 8:39 PM EDT by Anonymous

    1. Installing .cab files for Win Mobile 5x, software won't install with error "this is not a pocket pc application" -had no issues with same .cab files in previous ROM.
    2. Touch tones for dialing on touch screen are gone.
    3. Battery drains faster than with previous ROM.
    4. Did notice preference to EDGE/3G over Wifi (but can still get wifi) -they fight each other when launching IE or other internet app.
    5. Slider keyboard does not "light up" in the dark unless you first press a key. Backlight was "instant on" in the dark with previous ROM.

    That's my 2-cents.

I also flashed the 2.15 update and noticed a few things.

    1. Bluetooth Dial Up Networking service is gone. Instead us Internet Sharing under Programs.

    2. I can now assign MP3s to ringtones.

    3. I have this PTT Red button at the top of my screen that I can't seem to get rid of (I don't use PTT).

    That's about all I've noticed.
