on more than one occasion I have had to reboot my phone when I am at work. After this I am not able to get to my contacts until I sync my phone when I get home. Can anyone tell me how to backup my phone (contacts, settings, web browsing history, calender etc) to my sim card. That way if I have to reboot, I am not stuck until I get home.
Thx

RE: how do I backup my settings and contacts to my microSD card
By: Freemans1, Nov 25 2007, 5:06 PM EST
"Not sure why you can't reach your contacts. My first pocket PC included a nifty SD Backup program that allowed me to save ALL my data, including text messages, phone log, contacts, etc. IT's not included on newer models. I've tried to import that to my current phone, but it isn't compatible with my version 6.0. Too bad.
I don't have any problem getting my contacts when I reboot. I might suggest you have a corrupted copy of Actisync. Try upgrading that software and see where you go.
Frank"
Hi Guys,
Did you find out about the HTC upgrade special that Sprite Software is running. You can upgrade to theri latest 6.1 version for only $10. This is only applicable to HTC device users. You can buy it from $10 from here: http://www.spritesoftware.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=203
Sprite Backu is the most coplete backup utility in the market right now. Is fully compatible with WM 6 and supports all HTC devices.

I have this small (1/8inch) square icon in the upper right corner of my homescreen and all other screens. It is an animated icon and starts as a small dot and grows into a "W" that looks sorta like the Microsoft Word "W" icon. Does anyone know what the heck this thing is?
Thanks,

You can disable the volume slider, then set the system volume. You won't be able to change it on the fly, however. To change the system volume, you have to change it in each profile.
1. Go to START > MORE > SETTINGS > PROFILES
2. Highlight one of your profiles
3. Select MENU > EDIT. The volume settings are there, for your ringer, in-call sound, and overall system sound
4. Repeat steps 2-3 for each profile you want to modify.
Even with system volume set, if you use WIndows Media Player, you can map keys to raise and lower the player volume. If you use TCMP, you can raise and lower the preamp in the menu.
Hope that helps! :)

I have a hell of a time hearing callers on the Dash, even under ideal situations. I've resorted to using the speakerphone mode, which proves that the volume CAN be increased based the "max" from the volume slider. Is there a registry tweak for this somewhere? Thanks!

Are you talking about videos stored on your Dash or its storage card, or are you talking about videos online like on YouTube?

Hey there ...
Can the wm5 smartphone act multiple tasks ... also in the background?
I know it from my former wm5 PPC.
I switched over to a XDA Cosmo now.
My problem:
I listen music via my bluetooth stereo headsets. That works pretty fine.
But I can't switch to my home-screen, keyboard-lock, contacts, PIE, etc without the mediaplayer stops my music ...
Can anyone help me? Thanks for your help.

If you're using Windows Media Player, there is a setting within it which tells it whether or not to keep playing when it is not the focus. Hope that helps. :)

Any suggestions?

I have the $5.99 data plan and use the proxy tweak. I am able to browse the web using PIE as well as send and receive e-mail via IMAP in messaging. I am, however, having trouble getting picture messages (MMS) to send or receive. Outgoing messages sit in the outbox until they timeout, then I get an error. Incoming messages show properties and give me an option to download them, but they never download. Any ideas about this?

In the past 2 months I have used the t-mobile 5.99 plan to access the entire internet with the instructions given above in the following places - Las Vegas, Pittburgh, Cleveland, Johnstown PA, Orlando area, Miami area Atlanta and probably more. many times when I have a problem, it is because there is not enough memory. I use the Task Manager to free up memory and if it still does not work, I power the DASH off and back on. Happy Surfing!

I believe the data card (Sony Ericsson GC89, etc) dedicates all it's available "ports" or "slots" for data only when communicating with cell phone towers while the dash uses some of it's ports for voice and data communication. In layman's terms, you may see a slight increase in performance... but don't my word for it!
In your situation, I don't believe you will see any advantages; you'll just have an extra device in your hands. If you hate using a cable, you can always use the Bluetooth "phone as a modem" route.

I just downgraded from the total internet package ($29.95) to the tmobile web ($5.95) a month and it works just fine. I'm able to access the internet and emails almost exactly as before. You can't stream video from youtube or orb. But as far as browsing and using google maps, its works the same. The instructions posted above appear to be the same ones I followed, however, I used the ones posted on the following link: http://dashapps.googlepages.com/home. All the apps there are free and work great.

Did you know you can view the desktop of your home computer from your DASH. AND make it SECURE with SSH? Plus you can use your home PC as a Proxy...
What does this mean. VNC + SSH = run your pc (actually see your desktop) from your phone or laptop. With SSH + Proxy, you can connect to your computer securely over an open unsecured wireless connection, and surf the web securely by using your home pc as a proxy.
For your Windows PC, get these programs (use google to find them)
- COPSSH
- UltraVNC
- FreeProxy
For your remote laptop (or any remote system for that matter) get:
- puTTY
For your DASH get:
- zaTunnel Free (listed above in the wiki)
- .NET VNC Viewer http://dotnetvnc.sourceforge.net/
For all the details... you're on your own... good luck, I hope you're tech savvy. :)

T-Mobile Total Internet is now $19.99... No need 4 blackberry service. |

Thread started: Oct 18 2007, 4:47 AM EDT Watch
FYI, T-Mobile lowered the rate of their Total Internet from $29.99 to == $19.99 ==
With the blackberry service, you only get the Edge internet. But with the Total Internet, you get Edge PLUS access to the T-Mobile Hotspots at Starbucks and Airports and stuff.
Go to your t-mobile account (https://my.t-mobile.com/login/MyTmobileLogin.aspx) and change it if you haven't already. Then in a day or two, go to http://hotspot.t-mobile.com/ and login using your phone number and last 4 of your SSN as your password (I had to call them to figure that out).
Also, use Devicescape (seen above in the wiki) to manage your WiFi hotspots, it helps a lot.

Using Dash PAN With A Mac |

Thread started: Oct 5 2007, 1:43 AM EDT Watch
It's actually really easy to use the Dash's connection to get a mac on the internet. All you have to do is open Internet Sharing on your Dash and select connect. Then on your Mac go to System Preferences and open the Bluetooth pane. Under Settings check mark "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar and make sure your device is discoverable. Then click on the Bluetooth symbol that now shows up in your menu bar and select "Set Up Bluetooth Device" and run through the steps. Once that's done, click on the Bluetooth symbol in the menu bar once again and select "Join Network On Dash" and that's it. Hope that makes sense and helps out.
*Note* Make sure you've got the latest version of Mac OS X since internet sharing with the Dash was just recently enabled with one of the newer system updates.
