T-Mobile MDAT-Mobile MDA

(a.k.a. Qtek 9100, Orange SPV M3000 and i-mate K-JAM)

People swear by the MDA and its quickly become one the best selling Windows Mobile devices. And it's really no wonder. The MDA has the power of the SDA and ratchets up the functionality by adding a full, backlit QWERTY keyboard and large color screen.

Reasons NOT to use the MDA

  • No hard-keys for numeric keypad. The on-screen keypad is a) difficult to activate and b) finicky to use w/o the styles.
  • The screen constantly needs re-alignment. The stylus can be up to 1/2" away from where you think you are pressing it.
  • Active Sync fails to work for me - even over the direct connection - none of my Outlook contacts would download - and I got no error messages.
  • Synchronizing to Exchange server requires downloading certificates to the phone; a complex procedure I was never able to complete successfully.
  • Too complex for phone store support people. T-Mobile for example, has you call a special data services group to get support for this phone. It will suck away hours of your life just getting the basic capabilities out of this phone.

  • [ I have no idea why this is posted here. The MDA is one of the easiest phones to get to learn. Whomever wrote these reasons NOT to use the MDA, must be of a very low IQ. If you have even basic skills, you will have NO PROBLEM at all with this great device.]
