HTC Touch HD - the problems keep coming |

Hi all. Didn't see a Touch HD specific forum so posting here. Basically, since getting a Touch HD in December, I've had tons of problems and am starting to wish I hadn't bothered getting a smartphone. It's worse than my previous very old nokia in terms of being a phone, and the cool factor of it being a portable PC is outweighed by the problems that come with it being a windows PC. I bought it from mobiles.co.uk, it's on O2, it's a HTC and it run Windows. When it doesn't work, who's responsible?
In 5 months:
1. When I type the first letter of a text (starting or replying) it is deleted and has to be retyped. Texting in general has other glitches (button mapping in landscape, double-insertion of words from the suggestion list) and isn't as fast or as easy as with a fixed keyboard, plus it required more concentration.
2. alarms appear as the small bar at the bottom rather than a usefully-sized alarm name, with snooze and end buttons. Not a bug, just not particularly useful. One of the many cases of the the software being more suited to a pc monitor than a phone screen
3. Phone's sluggish. Did full backup & reinstall for recent firmware upgrade, but no change. Software often sluggish, crashes not uncommon. Feels like it doesn't have enough memory, though it never goes above 70%.
4. Calls often go straight to answer even if the phone's in my hand. Callers say it only rang once. Extended the max ringtime with operator but no improvement. Think it's related to memory/sluggishness.
5. GPS on googlemaps always puts me a few streets away
6. Today my storage card became corrupt and nothing's recognised.
I can take the time and use my IT knowledge & forum searching to fight these fires one by one, but I paid for something which should just work, not need me to devote loads of my time to fixing all the time. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I currently have an HTC Touch through Sprint and I have found the GPS, or lack there of pretty horrible. GPS is becoming essential. Will the internal antennae featured on the Touch Pro 2 work as a real GPS or will it only work in aGPS mode?

We're looking to replace Palm PDA's and host of cellphones with the Diamond Touch, however need to be able to input large amounts of text using a bluetooth keyboard.
Are there any compatible BT keyboards for the Diamond Touch, or in fact does the unit even support BT keyboard input.
Thanks
Mike Hedley

When it comes to Tech Support, I have found more answers to device problems on this Wiki and the XDA-Developers Wiki than I ever received from HTC. I hate to say it, but HTC sells most of their devices to phone companies rather than end users. So we don't really have as much clout as say ATT or T-Mobile. HTC has a patch for a problem I'm having with my ATT Fuze, but they won't release it until ATT authorizes the release and decides whether it will be a ROM upgrade or just a .CAB file patch release.

My Phone App keeps Opening |

Thread started: May 6 2009, 1:07 PM EDT Watch
I've seen on some other forums this issue but the fixes don't seem to apply to me.
The issue is that any time I install something, the app closes and my phone application is open. It also happens seemingly randomly when not installing things, but mainly after an install. Some have said it's a phone-lag problem (can't find the reg keys to edit to fix) and some say it's got to do with Pocket Toolman2 (I do have this installed).
Does anyone know of any fixes or how I can get it to stop opening all the time?

How do you install them after you download the sunglobe.cab and the VGA input file?

"Contact me [email protected]"
Just contact your carrier, if you have fufilled any contracts you have with them they will give you the unlock code. Or tell them that you will be traveling and need to use a local sim while you are out of the country, and they will supply you with the sim unlock code.

Hi StackerLee! To answer your question, Yes, there is a way to move all your contacts by going into SIM manager on the phone which should be under Start > Programs > SIM Manager (unless it's an AT&T phone then it's Start > Programs > Tools > SIM Manager). There you just do "Contacts to SIM" and you can move them that way.

"I have a Touch Pro (Alltel) and have my contacts stored to the device, but they're still not syncing to my laptop. I'm having trouble finding the option to change the sync to Handheld Wins in the Activesync software. Can you tell me where to locate it? Thanks! "
Do you have Outlook installed on your laptop? Just Delete the partner ship with the phone and set up a new partnership with active sync and select device wins during set up.

What device are you referring to? On most HTC devices, Pocket Internet Explorer comes pre-loaded and on the newer ones, you also get Opera.
I can use my home WiFi on my HTC Fuze and use wither browser just fiine.

"I'm in the same boat...anyone? help!!!! I think HTC should actually make these kinds of things available for download on their site...honestly..."
T-Mobile actually wont allow HTC to host anything for the devices that they make for them....
Which OS do you need the USB Modem Drivers for?
All you should need to do is an internet search...here is an example of what I found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288753

Okay, after a week without using my phone (vacation), my phone is now broken. It simply does not start up properly, and is really getting me annoyed. It freezes on the "Windows Mobile 6" startup menu, eg. it never shows the home screen, but freezes right before it.
I took the battery out and put it back in and restarted a couple times, but it still does not work. Can anyone offer any help?

Yes of course, ringtones are a file like any other file. Back in the days , before Bluetooth, files and info were transferred by means of an infra red beam. The two devices devices had to be aligned with the infra red ports facing each other so the beam could be sent and received, hence " beaming ", In the disappearance of infra red and the emergence of bluetooth, beaming has come to mean transferring files by Bluetooth.
I just had this arguement yesterday with my son who insisted beaming was bluetooth, ( which now it is ) but i felt obliged to at least try to educate him.

Owners of HTC phones with the WHite screen of death UNITE!!!!! |

Thread started: Sep 22 2008, 11:42 AM EDT Watch
I have had the white screen issue a year and a half after buying the phone, so, naturally, it's out of warranty. ($28 to look at it, and $161 to over $300 to fix the problem). I have a Safeware (www.safeware.com) cellphone warranty, but they don't cover manufacture defects. This is DEFINITELY a manufacture defect - just look at all of the users on this website mentioning it. We need to come together as a group and get HTC to fix this problem, not only with our phones, but also with future HTC phones. I love my phone when it works, but I rely on information on my phone in a pinch and cannot afford to waste time trying to get my screen back when it goes white. I have the 8525 and want to upgrade to the tilt or the Fuze when AT&T gets it (In November, I have found on some sites), but I see the same thing happening with the tilt, so I don't expect the Fuze to be any different. If HTC can't help us then perhaps the Iphone should get our business, instead? Are there any lawyers with this same problem who would like to help us in this battle?

I am having the same issue except along with my "white screen of death" it takes atleast 15 minutes to open any application such as calendar, contacts and messaging. I've tried everything from soft reseting to taking the battery, memory card, and SIM card out. Nothing is working. If you find any solution to your problem or mine can you please let me know.

Free GPS for Window Mobile 6 environments and Mogul PPC 6800 |

Thread started: Jul 10 2008, 10:25 PM EDT Watch
There are two attachments available for download which will enable the GPS to work on a Mogul.
Look at the Home Page bottom for a free program download called MyGPS.CAB which will access the internal GPS chip from QualComm GpsOne. This is a work in progress and I will be improving it as I find time.
It may work for other HTC phones, but it will require Window Mobile 6 to be installed.
The MyGPS.CAB is an auto install which will need to be copied to the phone. Once copied, use the file explorer to activate the the install.
Once it is install, it will have a menu popup on the lower right hand side.
Pressing the "Start GPS" on the menu will cause you to see the following:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
QualComm GpsOne Card: version 0.0
SeviceState: On
DeviceState: On
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once the Sats are found the display will add additional lines:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flags: 3FF5F
Latitude (DD): XX.XXXXXXX
Longitude (DD): XX.XXXXXXX
Above Sea Level: XXX.XXXXXXXX
Satellite Count: X/XX (X)
Heading: XXX.X
Speed: XX.X => will show 0 at rest
Time: MM/DD/YY HH:MM:SS AM/PM
-----------------------------------------------------------------
In the future I plan to change the heading to be both degrees and compass headings
