Upgrading Tigerdirect HTC S621unlocked GSM quad

I just bought an HTC GSM unlocked s621 from tigerdirect, can some one kindly advise me on how to upgrade from a mobile 5 to a better version. I do not know whose version of mobile 5 it has.
(a) How can I find out whose mobile 5 it is or is this an irrelevant question?
(b) What files do I need to get to do an upgrade? And if possible from where?
 Do you find this valuable?
