HTC S730 Memory Challenges
Dec 14 2007, 9:30 PM EST | Post edited: Dec 14 2007, 9:30 PM EST
I just received an S730 and it doesnt seem to have enough free memory to run properly? There is only 17mb abailable after a hard reboot and this seems to fill up very quickly and then the phone starts ggiving memory errors. I am very dissapointed in this device. Does anyone know of a ROM update coming to fix it, or do I need to return the device?
There is obviously a serious memory issue somewhere, and am quite surprised that HTC would release something in this condition.

Yes, the memory issue is really bad, especially if you want to use the camera whilst having other applications open at the same time. Constantly having to use the task manager is not good for any mobile device. The S730 is really a poor device considering what it could have been. HTC are really milking people on this one.

The same for me. Memory starts at 17mb after a reboot and is about 8-6 after running a while. Hoping if more people report this there will be a fix soon. Annoying to use the task manager to close applications all the time.

Same for me... I really hope that HTC posts a reply before I get too frustrated and return the device. This could be the best device out there, but with all the issues it sorta ruins it.

Same here. How much memory should there be if you have a "clean" phone?

I'm having exactly the same issues. I'm hoping they left some debug code in there or something and it's a quick fix.

I know that the S710 had pretty much the opposite situation from a memory standpoint in that 7mb were essentially used by the windows mobile programs, and the rest 35+mb were available for everything else

Is this a good thing or was there not enough memory for the operating system? How much memory does the operating system need? My s730 says there are 43.73 MB available, but with only the sms inbox up, 35 MB used.

ok, but are you telling me that they dont have anyone monitoring wiki's and blogs about their products? If you look at what some of the other device companies do like Ubiquio as an example, they actively try to support their customers directly via the web.
This has now been weeks, and HTC has not responded at all via anything on the web or via their help forums, or via calls directly to HTC US & Europe. HTC's lack of response demonstrates extremely poor customer service. I really hope it was just the time of year and that a fix is forthcoming very soon.

My experience is the same. After multiple requests to support, they always seem to "just notice" the problem, if they understand the problem at all. Several support answers are "buy a bigger memory card" which just shows they do not know what they are talking about. I relly hope they know about the problem and are working on a solution.

Another week, and still no response from HTC....
I would reccomend that no one should buy this device until HTC or Microsoft repairs the problem.

so it seems that HTC still is "surprised" that there is a problem with this device.. The support team is still quoting standard responses for memory issues, ie.. maybe you should clear browser cache, or how many contacts do you have, or mail attachments..
this is a joke already... it would be nice to at least hear, yes there is an issue and we are working on a resolution.

ok, something i did to help our memory issues with the little that we have left.. disable any apps that might be doing auto updates that requires network connectivity.. either do it manually or set it up for the longest time to sync.. also sent an email to CH 11 News "Help Me Howard" feel free to email him too and report your experience with Microsoft and HTC about this phone

I had the same issue with my HTC T-Mobile MDA with Mobile 5. It is a software issue. T-Mobile has a new release of Mobile 5 that cured the problem. A hard reset will fix the probelm but as you use the device and delete files, it doesn't delete them from thinking they are still there, hence a memory deficiency. The new release fixes it. I have just purchased a new HTC Touch and it has Mobile 6 and I am having the same issues with it. I don't know who will have the new software update for it.

I Uninstalled windows live

Have a custom home screen with only one language. I have about 14 MB free. after usage it sometimes drops to 5 mb free. If I run oxio's closeapps i get my 14 mb free again. I regularly run closeapps and have no memory problems
