I have a HTC p4000. My really stupid provider locked out GPS. Hack?

I need a hack because TELUS is so greedy. They want me to pay $10 a month so they disabled the GPS in my phone. Someday this kind of behaviour will come back to bite them. TELUS - you broke the "DO NO EVIL" law and it will come back to bite you. ... rant done.

Anyone know where I can get a hack to enable GPS. Or even find a similar hack for another WM5 phone that I could adapt? Thanks in advance, Doug

All HTC TyTN's built-in GPS is fried at the factory for some reason. Not just Telus. Yeah, it's some messed up marketing technique.

If that is true how can telus offer us the GPS for $10 per month? Someone out there must know how to activate this.

Doug,

Find anything out yet? There is no way that the GPS is fried in the factory if Telus is offering us the option for $10/mo Kathryne

Hi, I work for telus and have a p4000... the unit has no gps inside...and there is no 10$/mo service available... I dont know where you got this info... The only pocketpc/smartphone that can have gps with telus is the new BlackBerry 8830... If there's a 10$ service for the p4000 let me know how to get it because I never saw suck a thing...and would like to get it!

The only GPS built in the phone is for 911 emergency only. Just go buy a bluetooth gps receiver and get some software for it. That's what I did. Hulox GPS receiver on ebay for 20 bucks and software that I'm not gonna say how I got but you can figure that out. Other than not coming stock with GPS this phone rocks. I've had a treo and q, and by far this is my favourite.

Hey man, I've got exactly the same phone and exactly the same problem. These guys responding to your comment don't know what they're talking about. I contacted the manufacturer of my gps unit and he said that in order to get the gps paired up and running i have to see "spp for gps" in the list of services avaible. (And it's not there cuz stupid greedy telus blocked it out) So you were right we really gotta hack the bluetooth, there is no other way. I have telus as well btw. [email protected]

I work at a Telus dealership and there IS built in GPS, it is just disabled by Telus. There is a radio software update/hack that can be done alongside of a few other tweaks and updates. It's a pain in the ass HOWEVER you can get it working ( at least working with google maps and the gps that it uses. I'll find out EXACTLY where you can get the programs and I'll post links when I get off work later today.

ppc kitchen .org has unlocked the gps on the p4000. I have done it and it works awsome. I think it's time to toss the gps receiver.

I don't know if you solve your issue, but here's a link that could help you enable the GPS on your phone. Don't know if it works though. Good luck!
