You can download the new ROM for the Fuze here: http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=198&act=sd&cat=all

It adds radio software, re-assign PTT button, enhanced MS Voice Command, and other features.

I did the upgrade and my phone connects to the internet automatically everytime I end a call. I have to manually disconnect from the internet (media net).

That is interesting. I have not had that issue either before or after the ROM installation.Have you tried a hard reset? Could it be that a third party app is causing this to happen?

I have had the same thing happen! It is really bothering me, every single time I hang up it connects to either 3g, or Edge!!!!

I haven't had this problem with the auto connecting to the internet.
It must be a 3rd party app that is doing this. Maybe the "Quick GPS" program or the weather program?

I have all of them turned off
however I made a mistake it is only connecting to EDGE after I "End Call"

I'm having the same issue. I have 3G and all auto data connections off but the phone is still connecting to the Data when you end a call. Looks like this ROM is real buggy

Now I am having an issue where my Touch-Flo is not working correctly. I go to my e-mail and try to scan down to highlight and it will not highlight at all. I can hear the audible for the Touch Flo but it is not working. Seems like there is a bug.

I am having a similar issue. When I installed the new ROM, TouchFLO no longer initialized. The files were installed and I can manually load them through File Explorer. However...there is no TouchFlo listed in my Settings. In other words, I can't click it on or off because it's not there. I've tried re-flashing the ROM at least 3 times with the same result. Does anyone have advice?

I have not experienced this issue with Touch Flo. I have now experienced the issue with my Fuze connecting to a data connection after making a call. That is not a problem for me since I want a constant data connection. Since this does seem to be a problem for some, I have experiemented with it. I figure we can all work together to help solve these issues.

I have uninstalled the program listed as "HTC HTC Application" using the Windows Mobile Device Center "Add/ Remove Programs." I have also unchecked "Touch Flo 3D" in Settings/Today/Items. I like the old Windows Mobile interface anyway and like to be able to use third party software to manage my applications.

So far...I am not experiencing the authomatic data connection issue. I am in a 3G area now and will be in an EDGE area when I get home so I will be able to see what it does in the EDGE area.

I recommend others wait to see if this causes me any problems for me before you try it..unless you are brave!

Interesting...I haven't noticed that yet, but I will keep my eyes open. Good to know you've found a solution. I ended up fixing my TouchFlo issue. Re-flashing the ROM on my Vista-based laptop worked right away. For some reason my XP-based system at work just wouldn't do it.

What 3rd party software do you have to manage apps? Do you use SPB Mobile Shell?

That would explain why I did not experience the Touch Flo issue. I have Vista.

jolylady,
Whn you downloaded the ROM and installed to your phone, did you use a computer with the Vista operationg system or does your computer have Windows XP or older? This seems to make a difference, but I am not sure. We need to hear from others to see if this is truly a factor. When I got home today from te office, I did experience the EDGE network automatically connecting after ending a call. So...the steps I mentioned earlier did not help this particular problem. However, I have not experienced any bluetooth issues with my headset today after doing this. That is main reason I wanted to do it. I figured that it may be an HTC software conflict with the bluetooth stack so I wanted to remove any HTC software that was not cooked into the ROM. So far...so good. I have experienced the old issue with the blutooth headset (not hearing the person through the bluetooth headset) since installing the new ROM. I have not experienced it as of yet since removing the HTC software and disabling the TouchFlo from the Today screen.

Jolylady,

You can disable the TouchFLO by going to Settings/Today/Items and unchecking TouchFLO 3D. This will give you te basic Windows Mobile start screen (Today). If you cannot find a solution to your TouchFLO 3D issue, you might do this and use third party software such as SBSH Pocket Breeze and SPB Pocket Plus to manage the software on your dievice and see your schedule. These are Today plugins that work great. I have not yet tried them with the Fuze though. You can get these and other Windows Mobile applications from www.handango.com. I am also thinking about installing SPB Mobile Shell on my Fuze which will give it a total makeover. Has anyone else out there tried SPB Mobile Shell on the Fuze?

ajacobs79,
Sorry..I didn't see your questions before my last post. I have used the two I mentioned above SBSH Pocket Breeze to display my schedule, notes, e-mail, messages, contacts, and tasks on the Today screen and SPB Pocket Plus to have icons for all my apps on the today screen. You can access everything from the today screen. Because both of these programs use tabs and collapse you can get all this info in an organized format. I have not yet used SPB Pocket Plus on the Fuze but have installed Pocket Breeze tonight. So far...so good.

I had just gotten my new Fuze on the 10th. As I was checking the HTC website, I saw the new ROM. I decided to be brave and try to install it in the hopes that some other quirks I noticed would be resolved. The ROM install went off without a hitch and all the advertised feature were appropriately added. In fact, something I've never had showed up...when I get an email that is high-priority and I have my Bluetooth headset on, the system reads the header line of the email to me as it's signalling a new email as arrived. The first time it happened, I was totally freaked out - but now I've gotten used to it. However, I can't seem to find any way for the volume to be increased. With my other phones (Moto Q, LG Incite) when the phone rang, the tone would be able to be set for a loud volume and the ringtone would also play through the headset. Now, unfortunately, this phone rings rather quietly (even on the highest volume setting)! Add to that, when it does ring - all I hear in the headset is a 'beep'. This can be a problem -especially while driving. I'm not going to make this an HTC fault just yet. Although they don't seem to have a way to create your own ring profile and have it ring loud, this other problem could be just that my Plantronics Voyager headset has finally worn out after 2 years. I'm going back to my favorite AT&T store and see if it's any different scenario with a different headset. If any of you have any experience with any of this, I would greatly appreciate some guidance. TIA

Actually, having your high priority e-mail header read to you was in the old ROM as well. You can go into Settings/Voice Command and set your phone to have all e-mail headers read if you wish by unchecking "high priority only." In case you haven't go into your "Help" on your phone and check out all the other neat things you can do with Voice Command.

I have been running Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 on my Fuze for several months. It operates flawlessly and makes configuring the Today screen easy. You can put all the functions and programs you use regularly on the Today screen for one touch access. You can also set up frequently called phone numbers on the Today screen for one touch dialing. I installed Mobile Shell 3.0 on my Tilt and it has been working well also. It is more sophisticated and more cool looking than 2.0. It also uses less memory on the device. I haven't switched my Fuze to 3.0, because I have been waiting to flash the new ROM before I try 3.0. If all the bugs in the original ROM are cured, I will load 3.0 on the Fuze. Your comments on the new ROM have been very helpful. I'm running XP on my PC, so I may wait until others have had success flashing the new ROM from an XP based PC.

I have been using Voice Command since it was an add-in to Windows Mobile 6.0. It works well if you understand the program and know its quirks. Check out:

It has a Voice Command tutorial, demo and video. I'm not big on tutorials and demos, but Microsoft did a good job on this. VC does so many things, you need to check the tutorial

I upgraded the new ROM and can not set a different ringtone under the phone settings. I can move music to My Ringtones and set it there using file explorer... but, everytime I go to the phone options to set a different alert, the ringtone is "undone" and I have to reset it in file explorer. Anyone else having this problem?

The ROM upgrade doesn't change the look and feel of the interface. It is still TouchFlo3D. This ROM upgrade is to fix bugs in the original ROM. Of particular interest to most users is the fix for the Voice Command/ Bluetooth conflict where VC doesn't allow duplex phone communication with a bluetooth headset. If you want a different look and feel, there are cooked 6.5 versions available. I have been using Spb Mobile Shell that I like better than TouchFlo3D or the 6.5 interface. Look at www.spbsoftwarehouse.com for details on Mobile Shell 2.0 and 3.0. I am using 3.0 on my Tilt and 2.0 on my Fuze. They both work very well and allow me to customize the look and feel of the device to do what I want.

I experienced a similar problem with the old ROM as well. I found my problem happened every time I would sync. It was a conflict between the folder for my phone on my computer and the actual ringtone folder on my Fuze. By making some adjustments to sync options in Windows Mobile Device Center I was able to fix the problem. Instead of moving music to your ringtones folder manually, try going to your music folder and setting the tune as a ringtone from there. This seemed to work better for me.

Thanks Sgarrela,
I have had good success with the new ROM. I think it is worth it. I have installed Mobile Shell 3.0 on my Fuze after the upgrade and it is awsome. I disabled the TouchFLO from the Today screen and Mobile Shell takes less memory than the TouchFLO 3D and works faster. Thanks for your feedback on this.

One thing I would suggest to folks is do a hard reset before you flash. I don't know if it makes a difference but I did that and I have not had the problems others have had. Also, be sure to close all the active programs on your computer as there might be some processes running that could interfere. Do a soft reset after you flash and then use your phone with the bare minimum of third party apps to be sure any problems you might have are truly problems with the ROM and not third party apps. Taking these steps may save you some headaches.

Mine never had a problem with that. Buletooth with voice command always worked fine from the start. The issue my FUZE had was a long delay between an incomming call, and a ring. The way I solved that one, was with DIAMOND TWEAKS. Now there is about a 1 ring delay, from the callers side, before the audio on my phone kicks in. I can live with that. My problem before was that most of my incomming calls would go into voicemail, before my phone would ring.

Thanks for that info. I'm planning to flash my ROM with the new one that is suppose to fix the problem. I have not heard about the ring delay issue. FYI - I looked at Diamond Tweaks, but ended up downloading Advanced Configuration 3.3 because it has more tweaks available. If DT does what you need that's great. If you need more tweaks take a look at AC3.3. I put up a page on this Wiki with download and install details for AC3.3, and also a reference to the website that gives details of what AC does.

So far I have had one call that did not come through on the BT. To be honest, there were a couple of things going on with the phone at the time (the person hung up and called right back before I knew they hung up) so I cannot blame it entirely on the phone. So far I have had no other issues except the caller announce does not come throug my BT device, it comes through the phone speaker. I have notification in VC to come through BT if avaliable. All other sounds come through the BT just fine. So far... so good. We will see what tomorrow brings

Thanks for your help Sqarrela. You gave me the advice I need to change the look and feel of the phone. I'm looking into installing Spb Mibile Shell 3 into my FUZE. I think I'll put that in tonight after work. I was never really happy with the WM 6.1 look. Especially the phone interface.
What I did to correct that issue, was to install Iconsoft PhoneEX:
http://www.iconsoft.com/?language=en&menu=62e094db10fc83b1
This was probably the best app I have installed to date. It makes the phone actually usable as a phone, and with a good size key pad. Far better than the stock keypad the you pull up in WM6.1.
Thanks again.

I take it from your response that the Fuze Updated ROM solved the VC/BT conflict problem. When you flashed the ROM were you flashing from a Vista based PC or an XP Based PC? From this thread it seems that some people running XP are having problems flashing the new ROM. Your experience with this is appreciated.

Hi there. I'm hoping that between you and Sgarrela I may be able to find out if I'm up the creek or not. I was waaay too tempted and decided to try the 6.5 upgrade that is on the xda-developers site. (You know how we Windows fanatics are - we want to try everything as it comes out.) I upgraded this morning and things have been wonderful on the Fuze (please forgive me HTC). However, in the process, VC is no longer with me. It wasn't part of the 6.5 'kitchen'. I know that I can probably find a copy of Voice Command somewhwere - but I wondered if it would be the same as what I just gave up after upgrading to HTC's newest ROM. (Please be kind, I struggled with the decision all weekend - I figured that 6.5 just had to have better features for sound and work better with BT.) For what I gained in the knowledge and the features, I have yet to decide if it was worth losing VC - assuming that I can't get it back. Any guidance/suggestions that you could give would be deeply appreciated - you guys always seem to be in the know, and I do appreciate it very VERY much. TIA, Migs

"Hi there. TIA, Migs"
Hey Migs - I know what you mean about VC. I'm a big fan of it. denco7 is the WM6.5 expert. He's been running an XDA cooked 6.5 on his Tilt for several months. I know he really likes 6.5, but he's not a fan of VC so I don't know if he can help you or not. If you can find a VC add-in it should work fine with 6.5, it doesn't have to be cooked into the ROM. I bought Version 1.6 of VC for my Tilt when I was running 6.0 and it worked great. It does work as an add-in. If your Fuze had the VC/Bluetooth conflict problem, you will want the version of VC that is cooked into the Fuze Upgraded ROM that was just released. Worst case, you could flash the upgraded ROM, pick off the new VC module, store it on your storage card, then re-flash 6.5 and add-in the VC from Upgraded 6.1. Sounds like a lot of work, but you know how us Windows fanatics are : )

Thanks Sgarrela - I went to a torrent site and found the 1.6 VC. I installed it and at first I thought I had things done incorrectly because I couldn't find an icon to control the program. Then when I checked the program files and saw it there, it occurred to me that it might be an add-in of sorts. Sure enough, when I had my wife test it out by calling me, she was announced and her ringtone came through on the headset. Even more surprising was that when a high-priority message came through, it was still announced (even without the headset!!) It's a bit confusing, but for now, it seems to be working. I'll have a better chance to test it all out tomorrow while I'm at work, but for now, I'm satisfied. Thank you for all your encouragement. I'll see if I can catch up iwth denco7 and see what suggestions he may have for a different cooked ROM than the one I flashed with.

Check out the VC demo and tutorial on Microsoft WM website. You can set VT to announce thru BT exclusively, or thru device speaker or BT when available. When you get to the VC screen that allows you to check the "Enabled" box, it then has 'Options' and 'Notifications' that you can set for Calendar, Contacts, Media, Messaging, Phone, Start Menu, Status and depending on how they are set, each can be set up to work differently. I have VC announce my incoming callers by name (if they are in my contacts) and announce upcoming events in my calendar. It reads my text messages thru my BT if I have it on, or my device speaker if I don't. You can set it to stay quiet if you're in a meeting that is in your calendar by setting "Announce only during free time". It does a lot of cool stuff.

"I experienced a similar problem with the old ROM as well. "
Just wanted to let you know that I'm also having a problem setting ringtones with this ROM upgrade. Not a happy camper. I'll try what you suggest, in the meantime, we could use some other suggestions if this doesn't work.

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of praise for Mobile Shell 3.0 -- it's a dream and totally worth the money.

I'm happy to hear about another Mobile Shell 3.0 fan. With MS available it really doesn't matter what HTC or MS do with their version of the interfaces for mobil devices we can easily set them up as we like.

When you say "setting ringtones" do you mean assigning certain ringtones to certain callers, or do you mean creating ringtones from other soundfiles on your device? If you mean the latter, remember that the ringtone files need to be 600K or less in size or the Fuze won't play them. Also ringtone files work best as .wav files. Some of the other file configs. that will work in Media Player (MP3 for example), won't work as ringtones.

Hi Sqarrela...Do you know if anyone has a solution for Data automatically connecting after a call is made through Edge network?

I have heard of this problem with the new upgraded Fuze ROM. I haven't experienced it myself. There is aftermarket software available that allows you to turn off Edge and 3G and only turn them on when you want to use them. This would keep the device from accidentally connecting to Edge or 3G when you complete a phone call, but I don't know if there is a fix for this new bug in the upgraded ROM. If you want the 3G or Edge turn off software post back and I'll see if I can remember where I saw it ... probably XDA-Developers.com

Oh, yeah, Mobile Shell rock and rules!

As for the ringtones, I already have the sound files prepared and used them with the original ROM that came with my fuze (like 1.0.xx or something).

Basically, I want to assign different ringtones to my outlook contacts so when they call, I know who's calling.

I also want to use a different ringtone for anyone else calling who doesn't have a ringtone assigned (with my Treo 700w, I used "Who Are You?" for unknown callers -- too bad I can't do that with the Fuze -g-).

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Looks like I frigured out the secret of assigning specific ringtones to contacts in outlooks on the Fuze.

Firstly, you have to use files under 300k (could be under 400k but I didn't check) -- which is around 15 seconds using audacity's default settings for mp3 export.

Secondly, put these files under Windows/Rings on the Fuze.

Works like a charm. Too bad there's a size limitation and I'd love to be able to use custom sounds for other events like beaming, synching, etc.

Ever since I've updated I can't get online using wifi. It shows a connection, but i can't browse. I can browse over the network, but not with wifi. I didn't have a single problem before the update. Any ideas on what I can do?

Update: Wifi works sporadically. One minute it works, and literally the next minute it cuts out. I'm confused as can be.

The size limit is 600K. You can use custom sounds for beaming, syncing etc., but they have to be .wav format and under 600K also.

If that's the case, then I'm wondering if there is a bitrate limitation as well. Some of my 400-500K mp3s would not work on the FUZE either. Some of these are files where I used Polderbits as a 'sound capture' to get custom ringtones. However, I was saving them at a bitrate of 192 Kbps which may be higher than the FUZE is prepared to accept with a larger size mp3. All of my others that work (after checking through the Windows/Rings directory are just under 300K. Let me know if any of this tracks with what you guys are seeing. Thx.

It wouldn't work with files that size. When I downsized them, it suddenly worked.

Don't know what to tell you.

The "official" word from HTC is a 600K limit, but the "official" word from them is the Fuze does everything they advertise it does ... we know how true that is. It could be a bitrate issue. 192Kbps is higher than you need for ringtones, etc. I would try scaling them down to see what happens.
