Using regular stereo headset with the phone
Oct 27 2007, 2:52 PM EDT | Post edited: Oct 27 2007, 2:52 PM EDT
I would like connect my regular stereo headset to the phone. To listen to mp3 records. So far I found only one adapter available on the market is on http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=148545 (which shopping option on the HTC in Europe (http://www.europe.htc.com/index.html?lang=en).
Nor AT&T neither USA HTC site are officering anything like that.

Most of the web sites offering adapters for Tilt, the ones which are design for AT&T 8525. And they are not working with Tilt.

Does anyone solved this problem and found anything suitable on USE market.

You can also try this adapter from Boxwave:

http://www.boxwave.com/products/stereoconverteradapter/stereo-converter-adapter-at_t-tilt_2906.htm

Mobile Planet, a U.S. store (owned by Expansys) also sell this one:

http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=148546

These options should work.

I think Mobileplanet and Expansys are the same company, both list that they have 186 of them in stock: http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=148545 I just did a search for the product number, "htc 148545"

Also, there's three-way adapter here: http://www.wirelessground.com/htc3usbad.html and other Tilt items: http://www.wirelessground.com/atti89ac.html

Sorry, didn't read yours -- I only read your anonymous posts (smile). I just checked the links and when it wasn't the cool one that sam_la found I searched and replied. Can't edit these once they're posted so I wasn't going to sweat repeating what you said.

I check wirelessground.com first as they seem to be cheaper on price and shipping, if they have what you want. They ship quick, too.

One thing I meant to add about those adapters is that while they should work fine with a stereo headset they probably will not work with a stereo headset that has a mike in it for wired phone use. I read that in a couple places which is why I bought the HTC wired headset with the miniUSB connector - HTC EMC220:

Is there anyway to set up the tilt using a regular (Plantronics 510) headset and here the media player? I don't care about the stereo, and I already have the headset mated for the phone, but I get nothing when I try and listing to mp3s. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Looked promising, but the site said it does not work properly with WM6, which the Tilt comes with. :-(
has anyone tried it with WM6?

Yeah it is pretty cool, though I wouldn't listen to music through it. Mono headsets just sound terrible for music since they were not designed to do that. I will however use it with my iGuidance navigation application. Do you find this valuable?

Did you ever get your wired headphones working? I have a mini USB adapter that I use regular 3.5mm plug headphones with, but sound still plays through the phone speaker, not the headphones. I called HTC and was told that ATT specifically asked to disable the wired headset ability, forcing customers to purchase bluetooth headphones. Am I missing something? WIll a mini USB adapter work with wired headphones? Has anyone had success? Do you find this valuable?

I have not tried this adapter yet. There is another adapter out there though that is pretty cool. It's from HTC, it's a wired remote and 3.5mm adapter. Here is the link to it on Mobile Planet:

Thanks for the link. A few people said it doesn't work with the HTC Touch and that the sound just plays through the speaker. Since ATT disabled the wired headphone abilitiy, the only way to use non-bluetooth headphones is if someone creates a program that reverses ATT's software. Kind of frustrating, you pay so much for a phone, then they say you have to pay $50+ for a bluetooth headset or possible wired adapter just to listen to music... 1  out of 1 found this valuable. I've used the wired headphones that came with my 8525 on my Tilt and it seems to work fine. I know this is not the same as using the 3.5mm adapter. Do you find this valuable?

I just came from a major electronics store in CA where they told me the Motorola wired headset with USB plug would work. So I purchase this and the Mot car charger, which they said would also work. Now I get back and plug in the headset, ready to go and no sound! Has anyone found a way to make this work? Do you find this valuable?

Yeah, I posted that above-- I was using the USB adapter and USB headset that came with my Motorola SLVR. Neither worked, just played sound out of the speaker. Not sure what else to do. Do you find this valuable?

This is a very cool site. I use their anti-glare screen protectors, which work very well and never scratch. I would stay away from their mini-sync cables that retract. They fray pretty easily. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
