Magic exchange sync issues

I am experiencing some problems with exchange activesync on my new HTC Magic: 1) Phone says it is Synchronizing contacts all the time and eventually throws this error: "Exchange sync error. Connection to socket timeout." Emails still come in no problem. 2) When the calendar synchronizes, appointments sent by other people lose the ownership/attendee data and updates from the appointment owner are not updated. Calendar sync also strips other data out of the appointments in Outlook including categories and "private" labels. Other users are experiencing these problems.
