RE: GPS on sprint touch

"Well, I don't think the fact that Alltel has released its ROM update means very much for us Sprint users. According to an HTC rep, they leave the ROM updates entirely up to the carrier, and once the carrier prepares the update, HTC posts it on their website for the carrier. If this is true, then Alltel's time frame for releasing the ROM update is completely unrelated to Sprint's, because they are woking on this independently.

On another note, I went back and forth with Sprint reps a week ago on the ROM update. They first told me that there wasn't going to be one, because the phone didn't have any problems. I told them to check again, because the evidence is pretty compelling that a ROM update to add Rev A was on the way, and had already been released for the sister phone (Mogul). I was then told that I was right, a ROM update was on the way, but that I shouldn't expect it until sometime in May. Of course, the reliability of this source may be in question, but it was still somewhat disheartening to me."
They did it! The got the Rev. A and GPS working for Sprint phones. Follow instrctions carefully.

Sounds like it is going to be a bit longer. I sent an email (4/30/08) to HTC tech support about the Touch / GPS issue and this was their response:

I understand your concern with regards to the GPS function of the device. HTC uses a general cpu that is used by many devices with some devices having more functions turned on, while others have some features off. This allows for HTC to enable features based on carrier request, which requires licensing to enable the feature from the chipset maker and software development from HTC and Microsoft. In general this allows us to decrease cost to the customer and enable features free of charge in the future. HTC and Sprint plans to release the update in the coming months for the GPS and REV A.

I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

Unfortunately, much like the new video drivers for the Tilt, I would not hold my breath for ANYTHING in the near future. What they are telling you is, if you want GPS buy a more expensive phone. Do you find this valuable?

Old News, that is an update for a Mogul, although I have read people making it work on a touch with significant tweaking, 0  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Its nothing significant, and its actual simple you can get it done in less than a hour and have GPS and REV.A Running within that time frame Do you find this valuable?

Yeah. That is very old news. I'm not sure I want to install that ROM and take the chance of bricking my phone. Do you find this valuable?

It's not risky at all if you follow instructions carefully. When the GPS/Rev A ROM was created I flashed my ROM for the first time ever. Since then, i flash my ROMs almost on a weekly basis just checking out all the new ROMs. I think im gonna settle with Mustan's MS 6.1 GPS/Rev A ROM. See instructions below:

With the leaked rom being out for a couple of days now it will be probably 2 months maybe a little shorter before we see HTC and Sprint releasing the actual GPS and Rev A. ROM to the public. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
