SInce the Sprint version of the Touch doesnt support built in GPS, you can get an external BT GPS receiver. I have used my Touch with a Globalstat GPS receiver and Telenav for all of my devices that dont have built in GPS.

GPS Enabled View your approximate location and use available applications to navigate roadways throughout the country. (will not be available until Q1 2008 upgrade)

Maybe that is why they are talking about an update.

Sprint will provide all official updates for the phone I believe. I'm not sure if they have a method of notifying users (short of sending a text message,) or a way for users to check though.

It does not have the GPS either yet. It will probably release when the Touch does. I wouldn't even TRY to load the Mogul's ROM on a Touch...

No offense, but Sprint reps generally know less than what is easily available on Google. It may have been a rumor started by someone trying to make a sale by promising a customer that GPS would be available in weeks time...
I hope the rep is right though, I'd love to have GPS, and Rev.A wouldn't be bad either.

You can use windows live search "center on GPS" function to get your approximate location. I think it may use aGPS or something, I don't really know anything about that. I did it by going to menu>settings>COM7>done. It works pretty good in my house by the window and I haven't gone anywhere else to try seeing as how I just figured this out.

"I did it by going to menu>settings>COM7>done"
Menu>Settings>COM7??? What are you talking about? If your going to give info. At least make it clear so that it can be usefull. Under Start Menu>Settings>System>External GPS>Programs>Hardware This is where you can change the COM settings, and regardless of which COM setting you put it on, Unless you have an EXTERNAL Bluetooth GPS reciever, You cannot access the Internal GPS. You simply have to have for a new ROM update that will unlock it which should be available before the end of March according to HTC. A New Working Beta test ROM for the Mogul is already out and working with full GPS functionality and working REV A data, so the Touch ROM update isnt far behind.

i just called sprint *2 on my touch and the rep stated there is a GPS antenna in the phone that is not active. A ROM update will be release by HTC sent via email and/or sms directly to phone at the end of Feb. Now I must say the rep must have been level 1 because she kept getting off the phone to clarify comments. The good news from all the wait is that Sprint confirms an update is coming. Whether that happens or not is another story.

The GPS chip in that device is just for 911. It is not a chip that works for driving directions if that is what you are looking for. The software upgrade that is coming out is just for the device to move from REV 0 to REV A for faster speeds.

HTC and sprint used to lead us to believe this was true but it is not. As some have claimed for a while (with the 6800) it had gps the whole time but was disabled. Now some have got a cooked rom early have have been able to enable it the Mogul. Sprint promised the offical release soon that will come with Rev A. This should also apply to the touch.
