The recording bar appears at the bottom of the screen, simply
Tap the record button. When finished with the conversation, you
can simply tap the stop button and it records your conversation.



This will then have a speaker appear right under the Notes: entry.



This is not the best recording, but it does get the job done.

Below are some troubleshooting steps that you can use to determine whether or not your device needs to be replaced if is is having trouble with the display. Your wireless carrier should be using similar steps to determine if the device needs to be replaced.

Rule Out Common issues:
  • Is the device in “hibernate” mode?
    • Tap the power key to wake display up.
  • Is the battery installed in the device? Installed correctly?
    • Have customer remove and reinsert battery.
  • Is the device powered on?
    • Power the device on by pressing and holding the Power Button for 3 seconds. If the device won’t Power on, attempt to charge the unit with the AC Adaptor..
    • Once the device has been plugged in to charge, check to see what color the LED is.
      • Orange=Charging
      • Green=Device is fully charged
      • Red=Battery completely drained. Charge using AC Charger.
      • None=Device not charged and/or charger not detected, perform a reset with the charger attached, try another charger/battery.
    • If the device is not responding to the Charger or able to Power up, the issue is likely not related to the Display.

After the above probing questions/tasks have been completed, move on to more in depth troubleshooting as follows:

  1. If the you are able to read the Display, complete Steps 3-5 before moving to device Resets. If you are unable to navigate through the device screens (because the devices display is hard to see, not visible, etc), go straight to resetting the device.
  2. Perform a Soft Reset by inserting the stylus into the Reset hole on the bottom of the device.

  1. Retest for a few days. If the issue persists after the Soft Reset, back up all of your data and perform a Hard Reset by pressing and holding the left and right soft keys while performing a Soft Reset.
  1. Once the Hard Reset has been completed, please sure that the customization process is allowed to complete.
  2. If neither the Soft nor Hard Reset resolves the issue (and you haven't loaded any 3rd party applications back on the device after the Hard Reset), the device should then be considered for an Exchange. If you have loaded 3rd party applications on the device since the Reset and the issue has returned, move on to removing the application.

Does the issue coincide with a recent program addition?

  1. If the issue coincides with the installation of a 3rd party application, remove the program by going to Start>Settings>System Tab>Remove Programs.
  2. Highlight the program to be removed and Tap Remove.
  3. Once the 3rd party application(s) has been removed, you will need to retest the device for a few days (with and without the 3rd party application installed). If the issue does not happen without the 3rd party application loaded on the device, the issue is likely caused by the application; contact the application provider for further assistance.
  4. Are you using a Custom Wallpaper on your device? If so, select one of the default backgrounds that come pre-loaded on the device. If there are no issues with the default, then the problem is likely with the 3rd party wallpaper; contact the provider for further assistance.
  5. If the issue is not resolved by removing 3rd party applications (if applicable), performing a Soft and Hard Reset (and you have retested for a few days) and the unit has not been dropped or damaged in any way, the device should be considered for an Exchange, contact your wireless provider.

  1. Verify the devices Alert setting by going to Start>Settings> Sounds & Notification>Notifications Tab.
  2. Change the setting to a different alert.
  3. Place a test call to the device (check the device display to ensure that the call is reaching the unit, if the call is not reaching the unit, check the signal strength and change locations if necessary).
  4. If the display does not show and incoming call, this issue is not with alerts but with inbound/outbound calls and you should contact your wireless carrier for assistance.
  5. If the display did show the incoming call, change the alert setting back to the previous.
  6. Place a test call to the device.
  7. If the issue remains, move on to the following troubleshooting that is specific to the issue type.
AT&T 8525 does not Ring
  1. Ensure that the device is set to ring for inbound calls by going to Start>Settings> Sounds & Notification>Notifications Tab.
  2. Adjust the Ringer Volume and try another inbound test call.
  3. Check the device display to ensure that the call is reaching the unit. If there is still no audible alert, continue with the following troubleshooting steps.
  4. If the you are using a custom ringtone (downloaded from a 3rd party), select one of the defaults that come pre-loaded on the device.
  5. Place a test call to the device and check the device display to ensure that the call is reaching the device.
    • If the call is reaching the device and the ring can be heard, the issue is likely with the 3rd party download. Advise the customer what file formats the device can support for ringtones and refer them to the ringtone provider for further assistance.If there is still no audible alert have the user attempt to play file(s) using Windows Media Player. If no sound is emitted while using Windows Media Player, continue troubleshooting.
    • If the call is reaching the device but there is no ring, perform a Soft Reset by inserting the stylus into the Reset hole.
  6. Once the Soft Reset is complete, place another test call to the device.
  7. If the unit still does not ring, have the user back up all of their data and perform a Hard Reset by pressing and holding the 2 soft keys while inserting the stylus into the Reset hole on the device:
Once the Hard Reset and Customization process is complete, try another inbound test call to the unit. Note: Since a Hard Reset was performed, the alert will be set back to the default.
  • If the device rings, issue is resolved.
  • If the device does not ring, the device should now be considered for Warranty Exchange.
AT&T 8525 does not Vibrate
  1. Ensure that the device is set to vibrate for incoming calls: Start>Settings>Personal Tab>Sounds&Notifications.
  2. Place a test call to the device and ensure that the call is reaching the unit.
  3. If the unit still does not vibrate, change the Alert setting (Start>Settings>Personal Tab>Sounds&Notifications) from Vibrate to Ring and place another test call.
  4. If the ring is audible, change the alert back to vibrate and try another inbound test call.
  5. If the unit still does not vibrate, perform a Soft Reset by inserting the stylus into the Reset hole on the bottom of the device
  6. Place another test call to the device.
  7. If the issue is still not resolved, back up all of your data and perform a Hard Reset by pressing and holding the 2 soft keys while inserting the stylus into the Soft Reset hole on the device.
  8. If the Hard Reset has been done correctly, the customer will see the following:

The following steps will help you determine if it is your device, battery or charger that needs to be replaced. These are also the same troubleshooting steps that your wireless carrier should be asking you to perform before replacing any of the components so that they can be sure that the correct part is being replaced.

Check the battery level by going to Start>Settings>System Tab>Power. · Battery Level must be 20% or higher in order for the device to run normally. · If battery drops to 20% or below, the AC charger is required.

Verify HTC Charger is being used. · Only the AC charger, Car charger, or USB data cable that came with the device should be used; others can damage the device and/or battery. Turn off accessories (BT, WiFi, etc) when not in use by going to Start>Settings>Connections Tab>Comm Manager. · Accessories can drain the battery quickly
Remove the battery and inspect the contacts. Remove any debris/residue found on the device or battery contacts with a soft, dry cloth.
Try charging the device: Plug in USB to device and PC; what color is the LED? Plug in AC Charger to device and outlet; what color is the LED?

LED indicators:
Orange=Charging
Green=Device is fully charged
Red=Battery completely drained.
None=Charger not detected, perform a reset with the charger attached, try another charger/battery.
NOTE: If the battery is completely drained, the LED will be Red for a few minutes and then turn Orange. Once the LED turns Orange, the device should then be able to power up. If the device shows charging with one (AC Charger or USB) and not the other, the issue is likely with the accessory rather than the device. If the device will only power up when attached to the charger (AC or USB) it is likely that the battery needs to be replaced. If the device will not power on with or without a charger attached, perform a Soft Reset by inserting the stylus into the Reset hole located on the bottom of the device:

If the unit still wont power on, perform a Hard Reset on the device. Note: Since the device won’t power on, it will not be possible to back up the data before the reset; all data will be lost. The Hard Reset should be completed before the device is considered for an exchange. To perform a Hard Reset, press and hold the left and right soft keys while performing a Soft Reset:

The below steps should be completed prior to assuming that your device is defective and needs to be exchanged. These steps should also mirror what your wireless carrier asks you to do in order to determine if your unit is defective.

Does the Device have enough Free Memory to run?
  1. Check the available Memory on the device: Start>Settings>System Tab>Memory>Main.Is there at least 5MB free in Storage and Program each?
  2. If there is not at least 5MB free in each category, you need to free up some memory by removing files from the device or by shutting down programs that are not actively in use by going to Start>Settings>System Tab>Memory>Running Programs Tab.
  3. Once memory has been freed up, retest. If the issue persists, continue with the following steps.

Does the issue coincide with a recent program addition?

  1. If the issue began around the same time that a 3rd party application was installed on the unit, remove the program by going to Start>Settings>System Tab>Remove Programs>Highlight the Program and tap Remove.
  2. Once the 3rd party application(s) has been removed, retest the unit for a few days (with and without the 3rd party application). If the issue is not seen without the application loaded, then the issue is likely caused by that application and you will need to contact the application provider for further assistance. If the device is still having issues without the 3rd party application installed, move on to resetting the device.

  1. Perform a Soft Reset on the device by inserting the stylus into the Reset Hole located on the bottom of the device.

  1. Retest the unit (for a few days) and if the issue returns, move on to a Hard Reset.

  1. Before initiating a Hard Reset, back up ALL of the data on your device as it will ALL be deleted during the Hard Reset process. To perform a Hard Reset, press and hold the left and right soft keys while inserting the stylus into the Soft Reset Hole. Note: The customization Process must be allowed to complete after the Hard Reset and retested for a few days.

  1. If the Hard Reset has been done correctly, you will see the following asking you to confirm that Hard Reset:

  1. If the issue is not resolved by the above steps and you have retested thoroughly after each recommended step, at that point, the device should be considered for a Warranty Exchange; contact your wireless carrier for further assistance.

But I found that the system will not save any change that I make to the Personal/Input Page. I have changed the keyboard input to every option available, clicked OK and relaunched the control panel. To have it revert back to the default keyboard. I have tried soft reset, hard reset back to factory defaults. To find that I can not use any other software keyboard than the default one.

Anyone have a registry setting or something or any ideas as to why the system is not saving the setting?

I have not found any cause for this error. One thing I do know is, the best way to fix this problem is by completing a hard reset. The is no other work around that can be done.

If any one out there is experiencing this problem or notice something in paticular when or before receiving the error messagel Please comment below.
