Activesync Via Bluetooth

  1. Preliminary steps
    1. Make the device ActiveSync® with the computer using USB first. This form of ActiveSync must behave perfectly before attempting to ActiveSync via Bluetooth®.
    2. Confirm the computer is Windows XP SP2, the version T-Mobile supports for Bluetooth ActiveSync:
      1. Click Start, Run.
      2. Enter: winver and click OK.
      3. Read the Windows version in the pop-up box.

Configuration on the Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer

    1. Right click the Bluetooth icon in the Windows System Tray and select Advanced configuration.
    2. Select the Local Service tab and take note of what COM port corresponds to the Bluetooth Serial Port. It is usually COM 5, 6 or 7.
      • NOTE: If not Bluetooth Serial Port is present, the PC is not properly configured for a Bluetooth ActiveSync. Consult the vendor of the Bluetooth hardware.
    3. Click Cancel to exit.
    4. Right click the ActiveSync icon in the Windows System Tray and select Connection Settings.
    5. Select the check box labeled Allow Serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port.
    6. Select the COM port corresponding to the Bluetooth Serial Port in the service configuration noted earlier.
    7. Click OK.
    8. Right click the ActiveSync icon again and select Open Microsoft ActiveSync.
    9. Click the Options button.
    10. Select the schedule as Upon connection.

    On the device:
    1. Select Start, ActiveSync, Menu, Connect via Bluetooth.
    2. A message says:'Cannot find an existing Bluetooth partnership...'. Select Yes to setup a partnership.
    3. Select Menu, New.
    4. Select the computer.
      • NOTE: if the computer does not appear as a Bluetooth device, restart Bluetooth on the computer.
    5. Press Next.
    6. Enter a passkey (such as "1234") to establish a secure connection.
    7. Press Next.
    8. Type the same passkey on the computer (if applicable).
    9. Press OK to complete partnership.
    10. Change the display name if desired.
    11. Press Next.
    12. Ensure the ActiveSync service is selected.
      • NOTE: if the ActiveSync service is not seen as an option, Bluetooth is not configured properly on the PC and T-Mobile will not be able to offer technical assistance to fix this problem.
    13. Press Done to return to ActiveSync screen.
    14. Select Menu, Connect via Bluetooth.
    15. Observe the computer to see if the ActiveSync icon becomes green, indicating a connection.

Follow all of the these steps... now on device even though you have extablished a connection with computer still create one..in the service the check box for active sync should be selected ( if not select it) and after that then select connect via bluetooth and it should work... i am running Service Pack 3 and it still connected to my phone :) after days of reading and trying

I have ActiveSync 4.2 and was on this problem for many hours before I solved it. Here're some tips:
1. Try a different COM port in the Bluetooth advanced configuration.
2. Try renaming the "Bluetooth Serial Port" in Local services in Bluetooth configuration to "ActiveSync". Make sure that the COM port number matches what you've configured in the connection settings under ActiveSync software.
3. Delete the existing partnership from the phone. To do this tough and hold the name of the PC on the mobile device under bluetooth devices settings and when a menu appears, select delete. Now start fresh by going to activesync on the device and choosing "Connect via Bluetooth". Create a new partnership from scratch. This time hopefully you will see the ActiveSync service and the partnership would be recognized by ActiveSync.

On the device:
Select Start, ActiveSync, Menu, **Connect via Bluetooth**. Look closely, I had the same problem but was skipping this part.
