Bluetooth Modem Setup

First, we need to ensure the Cingular 8125 has bluetooth turned on and is discoverable by other devices. Follow these steps to ensure that:

  1. Start Menu > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth
  2. Ensure that both the Turn Bluetooth On and Make This Device Discoverable to Other Devices check boxes are checked.

Now, on the computer, we need to pair the smartphone and the PC:

  1. Start Menu > Programs > My Bluetooth Devices > Search for Devices in Range
  2. Pocket_PC should show up. It will show up as your name if you have input your name under Owner Information under the Settings menu.
  3. Right-click Pocket_PC (or your name). Select Discover Available Services.Pairing should happen automatically and will ask for a PIN. Input the same 4-digit passcode in both devices when prompted. Try 0000.
  4. On the Cingular 8125, if a dialog box pops up, check Dial-Up Networking.
  5. On the computer, if a balloon pops up in your Quick Launch bar asking for permission, single-click it and confirm this action is ok and check the box enabling your Pocket_PC to always have Bluetooth access.

NOTE: Unlike the Cingular 8525, which has a program called Wireless Modem, the Cingular 8125's version, ModemLink, does not have a Bluetooth option. We will be able to work around having a special program.

  1. Start Menu > Programs > My Bluetooth Places
  2. Right-click Pocket_PC, and select Dial-up Networking.
  3. When prompted, input the following settings:

Now, hit dial. You should be connected to the internet! Congratulations! Visit http://www.internetfrog.com and visit the Broadband Speed link to test out your new connection speeds!

Could anyone on here post a link to the HTC driver needed to use the 8125 as a modem with Windows XP? I understand that the driver is in the CD that came with the phone, but somehow I misplaced the CD and now am desperately needing the driver... I'd be grateful if someone in this community could help. Thanks in advance!

What about using 8125 as a modem using Bluetooth? I haven't been able to get that to work on a Mac.
