I'm on the telus network, now i have been searching high and low for GPS capabilities on this phone, can someone confirm that I have to get an external GPS receiver and sync them together with bluetooth in order for google maps to find my location.
Or is there a way to enable GPS on this phone?

I think they know that this phone doesn't come with GPS. They are talking about using a bluetooth GPS receiver in conjunction with Google Maps or Tom Tom Mobile. I use Tom Tom on my Bell PPC6800 (HTC Mogul) with a bluetooth GPS receiver, and I'm waiting to be able to update my wife's HTC S720 to use the same software/hardware combo.

Hi
Can someone please tell me how well this phone copes with playing video? I'm thinking about getting one and a bunch of micro SD's instead of splashing out on a new phone and media player. Thanks!

I have had this phone for several months and am on the Telus network, I have been unable to get this device to properly play video at all. I have even downloaded alternate video programs with no luck at all. My advice is to steer clear of this device as it does not function as there seem to be many issues with it.

Does anyone know a way to have the adobe reader program display books to fit the screen so that you dont have to scroll side to side when reading pdf files? I can have it fit the entire screen but the font is far to small to read. .. with the scrolling, aside from it not being a very enjoyable way to read, it also kills the battery quickly!

The Adobe reader installed by default is "LE" (limited edition, I believe). Go to the Adobe site and download the regular version (it's free). That will fix the problem.

In fact when you go to the telus website it says clearly that the telus navigator works only on some phone listed there. unfortunately the htc s720 is not listed to be compatible with telus navigator. I had tried and it is not working. plus the htc s720 doesn t have a gps built-in, so you ll need a gps receiver connected by bluetooth.
hope it ll help!!!

HTC S720 Freezing on Windows Mobile screen. |

Recently, my phone started to freeze on the Windows Mobile screen. After 10+ soft resets i started pushing random buttons. It skipped the windows mobile screen completely but the phone was frozen on the initial screen only it had Sync over one of the soft buttons.
Is there anyway to fix it so it starts up normally or is there a soft-start where i can at least get it connected to my PC so I can backup my address book?

Just had the same problem with mine, and the only thing that worked was the hard reset. Sadly lost the data I'd stored on it. :(
Ah well, at least it works again.,

I'm looking for a leather or hard case that will fit the s720. Not a pouch, but one of those cases that you leave on all the time. Does anyone know of any? I know there are a lot of that available for the s710, but the s720 is slightly larger. I ordered an aluminum case made for the s710 and it did not fit my s720.

I've had this phone for about 5 days and I've had to charge it 3 times already!!! seems like after each charge the battery just gets worse! I've let is discharge completely and then charge to full...i had a feeling there was something wrong with the battery once I got a full charge in only an hour. Have to go to Telus now and see if they can replace this battery.

You also have to close manually your applications when you don't use them. You can do it by the task manager.
Also, review your connexion settings for your e-mail send-receive frequency. The more often your phone is connecting and receiving mail, the more battery it's using.

HTC S720 issue - Battery Life |
4 |
Apr 13 2008, 10:51 AM EDT by |
|
|
Thread started: Mar 26 2008, 2:06 AM EDT Watch
Posted this originally in the "Discussion Forum", but thought it'd be wise to post here as well...
Just recently I began using the HTC S270 (on Telus network in Canada) and I've noticed that the battery life is pretty poor, lasting only 8-10 hours without much use (maybe a couple short calls and some texting). I've noticed in this forum that one suspect is WM6 being a huge battery drain.
But I might have another idea as to why the battery drains fast, and I'm hoping I could get some solutions here. When I'm at work, I have the phone in it's case (the one it came with) in my pocket. The phone is locked, but even when it's locked, when a button is pressed, the screen appears. My thinking is that the face buttons are constantly being pushed while in my pocket and the screen keeps appearing hence the drain in battery (and potentially burning out the screen down the road!).
Aside from the obvious answer, "don't leave the phone in a place where the buttons are constantly being pushed such as my pocket", does anyone have any solutions to this? I figure if there was a way to lock the front face buttons so touching them does nothing until you slide the keypad out and unlock it from inside, but I haven't found a way to do this.
One quick other problem; on two occasions within 20 minutes of each other (and I've only owned the phone for a few days), the phone shut off completely when I closed the keypad after sending a text message. I had to open the back and take the battery out and back in again to turn the phone on again. Any one know why this might be and if this is a sign of a faulty battery/phone that could need replacing?
Sorry for the length of this, but thanks in advance to any and all suggestions.
- Alex

Hey Alex,
The issue that your having with the phone shutting off after you slide the keyboard into its regular position is exactly the same problem I was having. I suggest you go a Telus store and get your phone swapped. My new one has been working fine so far, but I've only had it for a day.

I'd like to find an application that would allow me to search through the contents of my phone by keyword. On my Palm, I can for instance type in "Lucy" and find all contacts, memos, appointments containing that word. I can't believe that Microsoft came up with an OS that allows me the search the web but not my own device!

I just received my HTC Libra 100 (aka Verizon Wireless "SMT5800"), and love many things about it. Especially the small size considering that it has a full qwerty keybord!
Biggest disappointment has been the problem with Voice Command (v1.6, which I had to get after-market, since VzW or HTC doesn't include it) over Bluetooth. On the HANDset, all works fine. Using the BT HEADset, and with contact and dial "Confirmation" turned on, the phone won't recognize ANYTHING you say after the robot voice has said back what it thinks you said. It just gives the "blaaat" tone as it shuts of the microphone. I *am* getting email message notifications properly, but not incoming call announcements, even when the call is from a Contact. (NOTE: I didn't have any of those issues with WM5/VC1.5 running on a PN-820.)
I would upload the users manual, if I could figure out how.
Otherwise, I'm pretty happy.

I've had this phone for a week as my company has decided to move us to WM instead of BB (cheaper data costs). I loved the BB 7130e I had prior to this s720, but I have been getting used to the WM interface and find it pretty good except for 1 major problem. Every time I want to launch the messaging application to read a new email, it takes 15-20 seconds before the message headers will display. Can anyone point me toward a potential fix. We use real-time wireless synch with Exchange 2003 and Telus email on the go application.

The easiest way is use the ActiveSync software to move files from computer to the your PDA. After instalation of the software select "files" as the option of stuff you want to synchronize your PDA with your PC. You will get a shortcut on the desktop to theses sheared folders after you select that option then move your ringtones to the ringtones folder on your computer and then simply synchronize the computer with the PDA. Hope that helps
