I found the Registry "Enhancement" that let me manually pick my service and frequency. I now have a real phone again. I do not understand why Cingular turned off that feature. HTC should also look into why their Auto setting did not fall back correctly.

The 8525 has a large flaw that can wipe you out when you are out of the US. The phone does not fall back to GPRS correctly if the 3G environment you are in is not up to snuff (BTW - make sure you have an old GPRS phone if you are traveling in Brazil so you can switch your Sim card to a phone that will work). I was told by Cingular that the phone radio scanning logic is flawed and due to some "test" 3G networks down here you can forget using your phone. Cingular is not much help either - all of the people are very nice, but every trouble call I have put in has come back "resolved" in a couple of hours with no resolution and no one can tell me why they keep closing out my support calls. I guess someone does not want their support handliong statistics to look bad.
I can't wait to get my old reliable Treo 650 back when I get back to the states. |
